The Treasure House of the Eye of the True Teaching

Eihei Dōgen

The "Shobogenzo," often translated as "Treasury of the True Dharma Eye," is a foundational text in Zen Buddhism, written by the 13th-century Japanese master Dogen Zenji. Comprising 95 fascicles, it explores the nature of reality, the practice of zazen (sitting meditation), and the profound teachings of Buddhism.

Dogen emphasizes the concept of "genjokoan," or the realization of enlightenment in everyday life, asserting that enlightenment is not a distant goal but an integral part of daily experience. The text delves into the interconnection of all phenomena, the importance of direct experience over conceptual thinking, and the realization that practice and enlightenment are inseparable.

Throughout the "Shobogenzo," Dogen employs a rich blend of poetic language, philosophical inquiry, and practical guidance, inviting readers to deeply engage with their own experiences and the essence of Zen practice. Its teachings continue to resonate with practitioners, offering insights into the nature of self, existence, and the path to awakening.
